Enrollment and Plan Activation
All student plans, including the Voyager plan, can become effective as early as the day after completing online enrollment and payment. Students also have the flexibility to manually select a future start date. However, OPTima plans begin four days after enrollment. For example, if you enroll on the 10th of the month, your coverage starts on the 14th. Enrolling in a plan is a straightforward process: students can visit the ISO website, choose a plan that fits their needs, click the “Buy” icon, complete registration, and pay securely online via credit or debit card. After successful payment, a confirmation email is sent with attachments including the insurance ID card, confirmation letter, and policy brochure. These documents are also accessible through the ISO online account.
Tailored Plans for International Students
ISO offers a variety of health insurance plans, including:
- Care Elite ($134/month): Unlimited annual maximum, $40 annual deductible, 90% co-insurance, and access to the Aetna PPO provider network.
- Care ($89/month): Unlimited annual maximum, $500 annual deductible, 80% co-insurance, and Aetna PPO provider network.
- Share ($79/month): Unlimited annual maximum, $1250 annual deductible, 80% co-insurance, and Aetna PPO provider network.
These plans provide essential coverage, ensuring students have access to quality healthcare at an affordable price.
Hassle-Free Enrollment and Waiver Submission
Getting started with ISO is simple:
- Check Your School's Waiver Policy: Some universities allow students to waive their school-provided insurance if they have comparable coverage.
- Choose the Best Plan: Browse ISO’s available plans and select the one that fits your needs and budget.
- Purchase Your Plan: Once you buy a plan, ISO will email you a waiver form.
- Submit Your Waiver: Provide the waiver to your university and enjoy your coverage without worries.
Payment and Billing Information
ISO does not require students to submit proof or documents when purchasing a plan, though additional information may be needed for processing claims. Payment options include debit or credit cards, international cards, ACH payments, checks, or money orders. If payment issues arise, students should verify billing details, inform their bank of the transaction, or try another payment method. ISO does not offer a monthly payment option, but most plans require a minimum enrollment of three months, allowing students to pay every three months. OPT plans, however, allow a one-month enrollment option.
Insurance ID Cards and Policy Documents
ISO is committed to sustainability and does not provide physical insurance ID cards. Instead, students receive digital ID cards via email, which can be printed if needed. The company charges an annual service fee, which applies to all enrollments and remains valid for one year. This fee is charged again only if the new coverage period extends beyond the initial expiration date.
Once a plan is effective, it cannot be changed, but students can purchase additional coverage dates by logging into their ISO account. Receipts for payments can also be downloaded from the account portal. Refund policies vary, and students are encouraged to review the "Refund of Premium" section in their plan brochure.
Proof of Insurance and Waiver Process
If students need to submit proof of insurance to their school, they can provide the insurance ID card and confirmation letter received via email. Schools may require students to complete a waiver after purchasing an ISO plan, which can be accessed through the ISO account and submitted to the university. If a waiver is denied, students should contact ISO Customer Service with proof of denial for assistance.
Plan Details and Coverage Options
ISO offers various plans to cater to different student needs, including special J1 visa plans that meet U.S. Department of State requirements. The J1 Exchange and J1 Exchange Superior plans provide coverage specifically for exchange visitors. ISO plans also utilize major insurance networks, including First Health, Multiplan, Cigna, and Aetna. Students can log in to their ISO account to find providers in their area and check which network their plan works with. No single network is better than another; rather, ISO offers multiple networks to provide students with more options when selecting a healthcare provider.
Visiting an in-network provider is generally more cost-effective, as negotiated rates lower medical expenses. Students can confirm a provider’s participation in their network by contacting the provider directly or reaching out to the respective network. If medical care is needed, students should schedule an appointment with an in-network provider and inform them of their plan’s network. Providers may verify benefits with SISCO Benefits, ISO’s claims administrator.
For students seeking medical attention, school-designated Student Health Centers (SHCs) offer accessible care on campus. Some insurance plans provide lower deductibles for SHC treatments. If a school lacks an SHC, students can locate an in-network provider through their ISO account.

Understanding health insurance can be complex, but ISO makes it easier with multilingual customer service. Their support team speaks Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Hindi, and other languages, ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds can get the help they need.
